Department of Criminology and Forensic Science (CFS)
The Department of Criminology and Forensic Science is the pioneer teaching department in Asia and India, and involved in teachings of Forensic Science and Criminology at the graduate and post graduate levels leading to M.Sc. in Forensic science and M.A. in Criminology respectively alongwith facilities for Ph.Ds in these disciplines.
In 1950, the UNESCO realized the significance of teaching of criminal justice at the college / university levels in Asia and in 1955, a consensus emerged in a symposium in London. University of Saugor responded to that consensus first and as a result this department was established on 18th July 1959.
The former Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High court, Justice GP Bhat was the first head of department. Forensic Science is the scientific observation, examination and analysis of materials of crime, scene of crime, victim or accuse etc. for the purpose of law. Forensic medicine, toxicology, ballistics and explosive examination, fingerprints, examination of forged documents, voice analysis, DNA finger printing, Narco analysis, Brain mapping are the some fascinating disciplines and techniques of forensic science.
On the other hand criminology is the study of etiology of the crime, criminal activity, methods of correction and rehabilitation of criminal, prison management, juvenile corrections, Victimology etc.
Modern instrumentations namely, FT-IR, HPTLC, VSC, Polygraph, Comparison and other microscopes, UV-Visible spectrophotometers, IR, GC, HPLC, the molecular PCR etc. along with all basic laboratory equipments, glasswares and chemicals are available in the department.
Department offers 2 years (four semesters) post graduate (M.Sc., M.A.) and 3 years (6 Semesters) graduate (B.Sc., B.A.) course with choice based credit system.

The admission of the students for UG and PG Courses in Criminology and Forensic Science is made on the basis of merit of entrance test conducted normally in the month of May every year at different centers located throughout India followed by counseling.

This Central University advertises every year for admission in leading National news papers and in University website (www.dhsgsu.ac.in) normally in the month of January / February on-line. Application form for entrance test may be downloaded from the University website. Duly filled form along with self attested mark sheet of qualifying exam is required to be submitted within stipulated date and time as directed.
