The department of Adult, Continuing Education & Extension came into existence on 8th of September 1984 in this University, with the aim to serve the society adopting extension mode known as the third dimension of Higher Education. The department was accorded statutory status as a full-fledged teaching department in 1997, under the faculty of Education. It offered a one-year full-time Post-M.A. Diploma in Social Work and Extension since its inception as teaching department to 2010. The department introduced the concept of continuing education and extension programmes to meet the diversity of educational needs to college youth and community as well.
The extension activities of the department are mainly focused on educational intervention to create socio-political and cultural awareness among community about their life. The department also provides opportunities to conduct survey, data collection, and pursue research activities. It has brought out reading material on various issues for non-literates as well as neo-literates. Documentations and dissemination of knowledge has always been one of the major tasks of the department.
Apart from teaching and extension, the department has Ph.D. Programme which is inter-disciplinary in nature and relate to contemporary educational discourse. The department has expertise in providing capacity building and enhancement programme for functionaries working in various sectors of socio- economic development.(...continued...)
